Tone News
December 28, 2003 Saturday, January 10th, 2004 – 7pm… Over the course of the past year, Tone has made an effort to stage performances in as many different venues within the DC area as we could get into. Speechless is the culmination of that effort. Though it is on a block long associated with rock (Black Cat, WGNS, St. Ex) Source Theater is not a "rock" room in its design. There is no stage within this modern black box facility. Instead, the performances will happen in the center of the main space, surrounded by seating on platforms on all four sides - music in the round, or rather, in the rectangle, if you will. One of our goals within the past year of staging alternative space performances has been to take as much attention away from the traditional focal points with shows as we can. By encouraging performers to play in the round, we hope that interesting acoustic elements will occur within this great space, and that a different listening and visual experience can occur for the audience as well. And there is great pride in the cavalcade of fellow instrumentalists who are joining this event. No one collective playing Speechless is quite like any of the others, yet all share the common identity of the power of arranged instrumental contemporary music. Links to each performer's web site is available here: Buy tickets here: http://www.acteva.com/booking.cfm?bevaid=60287. And more enticement in the form of sound samples will be sent around via this list in the coming weeks. We are very excited about this event, and By nature of the design of this fine location, once the music for the evening begins, it will run continuously over the course of the night - potentially the most intense musical immersion ever with in the Nation's Capital. Please join us all at Thanks very much and Regards to All! ~~ Tone: |
